Contributorship model
Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families recognizes that many different hands are involved in the development of educational resources and other knowledge products. Contributorship is an innovative approach that we are taking to recognize the diverse contributions of our staff and collaborators.
We have adapted an existing model for recognition of a range of contributions. This model is called the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). Originally developed for use in research publications, it focuses on individuals’ contributions across the entire product development process. Various academic organizations, journals and publishers have successfully adopted the model. To make the model more relevant to the Atlas Institute’s needs and reflective of our work, we have modified, removed and added categories to create 12 distinct roles:
- Advisor: technical or lived expertise consultation to inform content and/or design of project and/or products
- Approval: verification and approval of final products
- Conceptualization: formulation of foundational ideas, aims or objectives of products
- Editing: critical revisions and copy editing of products
- Funding acquisition: obtaining financial support to fund the project and/or product development
- Methodology: development of strategy, methods or procedures for projects and/or products
- Production: technical support or leadership related to production of final products (e.g. audiovisual production and editing, coding or programming software)
- Project administration: management and coordination of project and/or product development
- Research and analytics: collection, curation, analysis and synthesis of information, data or evidence in products
- Supervision: oversight and leadership on product development, including mentorship
- Visualization: preparation, creation and presentation of data and information in products
- Writing: developing written content for products (e. g. documents, slides, scripts)
The names of contributors are listed in alphabetical order (by last name) for each role. The names listed include only individuals who have provided explicit consent to be identified as a contributor. As such, lists may not be comprehensive or inclusive of all contributors.
From 2023 onwards, all knowledge products developed by the Atlas Institute will have an associated list of contributors. Over time, we aim to update our products to reflect this approach. If you wish to learn more, please contact us.
