International Women’s Day 2026

International Women’s Day is observed every year on March 8 around the world. It is a day to celebrate global achievements and reaffirm our commitment to advancing the rights of all women and girls. Today, the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families honours women everywhere, particularly currently serving and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), as well as the women in the Families who stand beside those who have served. Through your sacrifices, you have helped empower future generations of women.

Women’s well-being is a priority at Atlas and women Veterans’ insights, expertise and perspectives are integral in helping to inform and shape our work. One example of this is the Athena Project, an initiative focused on responsive research and meaningful connection in support of women Veterans’ well-being, guided by a working group of diverse women Veterans.

We invite you to learn more about these and other women Veterans who help inform our mission and strengthen our work by exploring our In her words campaign, amplifying their lived experiences, insights and voices.

In addition to the women who serve, we recognize the women and girls who have also served alongside their loved ones through their love, strength and sacrifice. Explore some of these Family members’ stories, told in their own voices.

We also take a moment to remember the many women who have lost their lives in service of Canada. Your courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten. Lest we forget her.
